We have the following problem with newly purchased Macs.
A department is using Windows Server 2008. Windows computers on their network mount specific folders from the server, which get mapped as drives D, E, F, G, etc.
Some files (that are created in Excel or AutoCAD) use links to other files on the networked drives. For example an Excel file can pull information from the "Customers.xls" file on drive "G". This works great under Windows, but Excel on the Mac cannot find the files.
We think this happens because under OS X, the specific network folder from the Windows server gets mounted as the folder's name. While under Windows it gets mounted with a letter from the alphabet.
Excel under Windows stores links using those network drive letters. And Excel on the Mac has problems accessing the linked content, since it cannot see drives with letter names.
Similar thing happens under AutoCAD. AutoCAD is also looking for linked content on drives with letter names.
Is anyone using a similar setup? Is anyone working Excel files stored on network drives, that contain links to other networked files?
Any ideas on how this problem could be solved?

eeeeek!!! I managed to find a bad link, and the error page was a Microsoft IIS page! You're hosting a NeXT website on Microsoft OS servers?!

You're going to keep experiencing OS X in the positive motives you had a few days ago. Even though I have used OS X for over a year, I am still learning and liking it.
Don't worry about what PC users smack in your face. Just know that you are one owner and user of the world's smallest affordable, portable supercomputer.
BTW: You said you were going to get a new desktop in a year? Watch for the G5s.
Congrats.

I have this back and like it, except for the fact that it's SLIGHTLY thicker than original. I was wondering the same thing about the sheilding though. How easy is it to get off and put back on. Obviously the back is extremely easy but curious about the shielding...

with the physical drawing right?
Here's what I'd do:
1. Screen capture a frame of the swf
2. Use illustrator to create a vector drawing of the character you want to animate.
3. Load the Illustrator file into After Effects and use the puppet tool and/or keyframes to manipulate.

iphone 4 line was pretty crazy there. I'm probably going to show up around 2. I would order online, but I'm leaving Sunday for a work trip for the week and can't wait.

Ok time for a really noob question, what is folding?
Folding@Home (http://folding.stanford.edu/)
All the Intel clients spawn 4 instances, regardless of how many CPUs you have, as far as I know anyway. This may be a change that they made to optimize it for the Intel machines.

You could try a restore, then update. That may clear the issue with it.

The company I worked for back in the day used Macs - we got tons of these in.
The box and packing all made it into the garbage - who knew? :(
I did manage to save some of the manuals/disks, though...

http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php/1714635-Verizon-is-violating-the-700-Mhz-open-platform-restrictions-already
VZW purchased a very fast nationwide 700mhz Block C LTE 4G network from FCC auction in 2008.
Of note, Verizon is not allowed to:
Block, degrade, or interfere with the ability of end users to download and utilize applications of their choosing on the licensees Block C network, subject to reasonable network management. Wireless service providers subject to this requirement will not be allowed to disable features or functionality in handsets where such action is not related to reasonable network management and protection, or compliance with applicable regulatory requirements. For example, providers may not lock handsets to prevent their transfer from one system to another.
Block Wi-Fi access, MP3 playback ringtone capability, or other services that compete with wireless service providers own offerings.
Exclude applications or devices solely on the basis that such applications or devices would unreasonably increase bandwidth demands.
Impose any additional discriminatory charges (one-time or recurring) or conditions on customers who seek to use devices or applications outside of those provided by the licensee.
Deny access to a customers device solely because that device makes use of other wireless spectrum bands, such as cellular or PCS spectrum.

Hey guys I'm in a bit of a hole here, I bought a jailbroken ipad with 4.2.1 on it and tried to reset content on it from settings menu and I'm stuck now.
I tried hosts trick, redsn0w, tinyumbrella, but without the shsh blobs saved can't move but up to 4.3.1 I think which I don't want.
Anyone have any smart solution to this without upgrading? Oh btw I get error 3194 when restoring in Itunes. Thanks much guys.

I think people are having their MacGasms a little eary.
Usually they wait for Steve to walk out on stage with his Keynote Remote before they have their first MacGasm.
Some people have more than one? Wow!
